The effects of the climate crisis cannot be ignored and, as a City, we can do more to be part of the solution. The changes to our waste management practices will have a measurable impact towards a more sustainable environment:
- More streamlined collections routes means collections vehicles will spend less time on the road, emitting less noxious fumes and requiring less gas.
- Less frequent collections combined with a widespread education and awareness campaign will encourage everyone to be more mindful of the waste we produce and, eventually, to produce less waste altogether.
- Mandatory composting for buildings with 9 to 29 units will encourage better habits and lead to less waste being needlessly sent to landfill.
- As an added benefit, these practices save the City money, allowing more funds to be reinvested in initiatives that serve us all, such as new green grants for the purchase of eligible, eco-responsible products.
